Located in the historic “Holy City” of Charleston, SC, Treasure Hut has been in pursuit of the unparalleled, the rare, and the extraordinary for over 40 years. In 1988 the current ideation of Treasure Hut was brought into being and quickly became one of the largest buyers of diamonds, gold, and silver in the Lowcountry and surrounding areas. Our family-owned establishment has grown into a beloved destination for Treasure Hunters and Explorers, providing an ever-expanding treasure trove of unique finds from around the world.
Our Story
The story of Treasure Hut begins with Medford Chason, who has been immersed in the world of collecting since the age of thirteen. His journey started in Southeast Georgia, where he began excavating antique bottles from the long abandoned original county dump near his family’s tobacco farm, which at the time had been concealing treasures that dated as far back as the 1800s . Medford and his best friend dug thousands of bottles, which they sold to antique stores. By the sixth grade, Medford was already selling coins and arrowheads to his classmates.
What began as a childhood hobby quickly blossomed into a lifelong passion for the hunt, with frequent visits to local antique and coin stores to sell his discoveries. This obsession with finding hidden gems, rare artifacts, and unique collectibles grew into a career and eventually an expert knowledge across multiple fields, including:
